Newcastle training provider opens new “first-class” facility in latest investment

Independent training provider TDR continues to engineer growth and success thanks to new investment in “first-class” facilities at its Quorum Park base.

The move sees the company, which has made Quorum its home for the last decade and provides apprenticeships in science, engineering, manufacturing and business administration along with workforce development programmes, open its new training centre which has been developed over the past year.

British Engines, one of TDR’s customers, offered support in the creation of the new training facility, assisting in the relocation from Scotswood Road through its logistics company, Stadium Export Services, and in the upgrade of the facilities at Q1.

TDR, which acquired Q1 at Quorum in 2011, works for companies across the North East, providing CPD and up-skilling courses as well developing apprenticeship opportunities and training strategies for young people. Courses provided cover machining, welding and fabrication, engineering and maintenance as well as business and management.

Now available as part of an enhanced package of support and expertise at Q1, TDR will be providing practical training on turning and milling machines alongside welding and fabrication, electrical inspection and testing as well as 18th edition wiring regulations course, AutoCAD and business improvement techniques.

The investment comes as TDR sees strong demand for its services and specialisms as businesses of all sizes across the region look to re-energise post pandemic workforces and equip them with the skills and technical edge to be fully competent and competitive in today’s global markets.

The former Engineering Training Centre (ETC) on Scotswood Road, which TDR acquired from British Engines in 2016, recently relocated to Q1 to take advantage of the location, “high quality workspace and great access to local transport links”.

Li Xue, chief executive, commented: “Quorum Park has been our home for over 10 years now, providing the perfect platform for growth, expansion and delivery of our services. It’s got great amenities and the accessibility makes it extremely convenient for those attending courses at Q1.

“We really do look forward to going from strength-to-strength on the back of this latest investment.”

Laura McGrath, events and sustainability lead at Quorum Park added: “With the skills agenda being a big driver for many of our tenants, we’re keen to support and collaborate with TDR wherever we can and love celebrating their many achievements.”
