Browne Jacobson announces its 2022 trainee solicitor scheme

Browne Jacobson has welcomed 10 future lawyers to its trainee scheme for 2022 – 2024 as it continues to grow its business.

The new recruits have joined 36 trainees currently at the firm, bringing the total number of trainee solicitors at Browne Jacobson to 46 a record number for the firm. In March this year, the firm increased its trainee pool by welcoming a further 16 trainee solicitors to the business following a rapid growth in legal instructions from new and existing clients.

The new cohort will initially be split across offices in Birmingham, London, Manchester and Nottingham. They will take up their first seats, working across various key sectors and service lines for the firm including: commercial, real estate, insurance, private clients & charities, clinical negligence, commercial dispute resolution and financial professional risk.

In recent years Browne Jacobson has revolutionised its approach to how it attracts future trainees with a stronger focus on diversity and inclusion, leading to it being named the UK’s number one social mobility employer.

Six of the new starters have come via the firm’s successful vacation scheme which launched in 2015. The summer vacation scheme provides an opportunity for prospective trainees to undertake genuine work whilst learning more about the firm.

Richard Medd, managing partner at Browne Jacobson, commented on the new appointments: “To welcome another 10 trainee solicitors to the firm, in addition to the 16 that joined us only in March and our other future lawyers speaks volumes of the vast growth and strength of our business in the last 12 months.”

In May 2022, Browne Jacobson announced it was to be the first official law firm partner to O Shaped, an innovative movement with a mission to drive positive change within the legal sector. The initiative has been spearheaded by former Network Rail General Counsel (GC) Dan Kayne.

Richard continued: “Each of our future lawyers bring with them an ambitious, fresh and creative approach that will perfectly complement the vibrancy of our business and support our firm’s O Shaped values and commitments.

“We know they are the right people to support our strategy to make a positive difference across business and society. They will be able to thrive in a firm that presents multiple opportunities for real development and a firm that empowers its junior lawyers to lead.”
