The Style Attic Bring Women Together for an afternoon of fashion, female empowerment and fundraising

Last month fashion retailer, The Style Attic, hosted their first customer event which welcomed 200 women from across the country to Leeds to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Charity. A charity that holds huge importance to The Style Attic founders heart.

Founder Leigh Unwin created the brand after her daughter Edie was born in August 2014 at 25 weeks weighing just 710g. Leigh said “Given Edie’s rocky start it was apparent from the beginning that life wasn’t going to be straight forward for our family. In October 2015, after a short return to work, I realised that however glamorous it seemed, full-time work in the fashion industry was no longer for me, although I knew that I couldn’t give up on my passion completely. It was then I had the idea to use my years of experience as a fashion buyer to find a way to work around Edie & her hectic diary of appointments, so within a few weeks to make my dream a reality, The Style Attic was born!”

Since launching in 2014 the Yorkshire brands proud values have been firmly based upon celebrating women and being a retailer with a difference, resulting in not only offering affordable fashion to women of all ages, shapes and sizes, but bringing women them together in the process. It’s popularity with fashion influencers and celebrity has also increased since launching, so much so their items have been featured on ITV’s This Morning fashion segments.

Earlier this year The Style Attic launched their ‘Friends of Style Attic’ Facebook group. A private, safe space that allows their customers, women from across the world, to come together and share styling tips, pictures of ‘how they wore it’ and seek advice from one another.

Following the success of the group, The Style Attic Summer Soiree was formed. Held on the luxurious rooftop garden of New York Square Moda Apartments, overlooking the expanding city skyline of Leeds, guests were treated to talks and consultations with Palm Tree Skin expert, Victoria Mullins, success & mindset coach Ellen Aindow of &ThriveNow and colour expert Toni Carver of TLC Style and Colour.

Leigh Unwin, founder of The Style Attic said; “Seeing all of the ladies be so supportive online has been a really rewarding experience, especially when social media isn’t always such a positive space, so it felt right to bring the women together and allow their digital friendships to become a real life reality. The event itself was truly amazing, it’s something I’d never done before, but to see everyone so happy in the sunshine whilst raising money for a charity I am passionate about was quite simply the best.”

Due to Leigh’s daughter, Edie, spending many months in the neo-natal unit at Leeds Hospital, it is clear why the charity is so close to her heart:

“We were quite the regulars there and without all of the support we gained from the amazing nurses I wouldn’t have had the drive to open The Style Attic. They truly are heroes and I just love to give back to them to say thank you when and where I can!”

Along with the help of her mum Lisa and sister Jade, Leigh opened their first shop in Swillington, Leeds and during more restricting times of lockdown, she later launched their website thestyleattic.co.uk.

You can keep up to date on the latest trends and styles from The Style Attic on their weekly live videos streamed via the brands Instagram and Facebook pages.
