Morpeth prepares for “biggest and best” upcoming Food and Drink Festival

This weekend (October 1 and 2) more than 100 traders will be serving the best local food and drink joined by a great lineup of chef demonstrations, tasters and live music.

Following a two-year postponement of the event due to Covid-19, the festival is forecast to achieve 2019 visitor numbers of around 50,000.

Aiming to provide something for all ages, the organisers have arranged a traditional carousel as well as a colouring area and mini kitchen trader set up for Morpeth’s young festival goers to enjoy. For the adults, the boozy bar is returning, providing the perfect place for an afternoon tipple while listening to some fantastic live performances.

The festival’s drinking area boasts popular traders Caps Off Brewery and Gin & Tonia serving gin, prosecco and pints of local ales and beers. Pairing perfectly with this is The Street Food Quarter which will be serving up some takeaway favourites including pizza, gyros, mac n cheese and burgers.

One of the highlights of the weekend is set to be the chef demonstrations and this year the demo kitchen will welcome chefs from local restaurants and cafes including Barluga, Café Des Amis, Pleased to Meet you and Firehouse No.1.

There will also be some new faces welcomed to the demo kitchen including The Chocolate Gallery, Grape & Grain, Made of Crumbs, Fat Lass Preserves and Tea Enthusiasts. The demo kitchen, sponsored by Morpeth Town Council, will host chef demonstrations on both days.

Centre manager for Sanderson Arcade and festival organiser, Lottie Thompson, said: “The town is buzzing with excitement for this weekend’s festival making its return to Morpeth.

“We’ve had two years to tweak the event from 2019 and we are certain our visitors are going to be thrilled with the added extras and improvements made. The event is a great chance to showcase the very best of local produce from our County as well as local musical talent.”

The event attributed its success to key sponsors including Rutherfords, Morpeth Town Council, Davidsons of Morpeth, Pleased to Meet you, More in Morpeth, Northumberland County Council, BBC Newcastle and Butternut Box.
