Tempus Novo to speak at ESG event for the manufacturing sector

Tempus Novo, a Leeds-based social enterprise which places ex-offenders into employment, will join a line-up of ESG experts and progressive businesses to deliver a free half-day seminar aimed at helping manufacturers to explore how they can commit to wider ESG strategies to make ongoing positive changes for good.

Hosted by law firm Clarion at its office in Leeds on 4 October, the event ‘Shining the ESG spotlight on manufacturing’ aims to simplify and improve the understanding of ESG in manufacturing. It will also give solutions for the identification, measurement and implementation of ESG infrastructure for short and long-term growth.

The event will be chaired by Richard Moran, senior partner and manufacturing lead at Clarion, who said: “ESG will no doubt already form part of the business strategy for many in the sector, and whilst it might not be fully formed, manufacturers have always had sustainable and responsible practices at the top of their agendas. Now it’s time for all those in the industry to collaborate and commit to wider ESG strategies to make ongoing positive changes for good.

“We’ve brought together senior leaders from Clarion in these areas with trailblazing companies and enterprises that highlight how ESG can be built into growth strategies to both make a positive difference and future-proof operations. Each element of ESG will be covered in a separate session and we’re really grateful to Tempus Novo, PADD Energy and Techbuyer for joining us to share their knowledge and experience at the event.”

Co-founder and CEO of Leeds-based Tempus Novo, Steve Freer, will join Sarah Tahamtani, partner and head of employment at Clarion to talk about how to address the skills shortage by looking at alternative recruitment options and improving diversity and inclusion in manufacturing.

Steve Freer said: “We have a long track record of placing ex-offenders with companies including Clipper Logistics, John Lewis and GXO. As we face ever-growing skills shortages, companies need to be innovative in recruiting talent and that is an area where we can help. Recruiting an ex-offender has huge benefits for both employer and employee and also helps with increasing ESG credentials, something every company should be committed to.”

The keynote speaker is Dr Sophie Dale-Black, director - UK Network at British Business Bank, the UK’s economic development bank. The environmental session will look at energy and emission reduction strategies, focusing on how to decarbonise energy-intensive manufacturing operations. The session on governance will cover ethical supply chain optimisation, highlighting the circular economy and the importance of sourcing, traceability and auditing.
