Indonesia unveils plans to become global electric vehicle battery producer at London investment forum

Leading voices from Indonesia’s ministry, global economists and industry chiefs, will present the country’s investment forum to the UK and European stakeholders on Thursday 27 October 2022 in London.

Key figures at the heart of Indonesia’s economy will provide insights on topics ranging from Indonesia’s ambitions for its G20 chairmanship and the country’s economic agenda, to ways in which investment into Indonesia can be accelerated.

Organised by The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesia Investment Promotion Centre, and Bank Indonesia’s Representative Office in London, and supported by Asia House, the forum will act as a platform for discussion on investment opportunities in Indonesia’s green and sustainable economy. This timely dialogue is of key interest this year given Indonesian’s presidency of the G20, and will take place just weeks before the summit in Bali in November.

Delegates can expect addresses by Indonesia’s Investment Minister, the Senior Executive of the Central Bank of Indonesia, the Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce Indonesia, and President Director of Indonesia Battery Corporation. Othe highlights from the event, include:

Indonesia: Global centre for EV battery production

To be revealed will be the country’s plans in leveraging this critical momentum for energy transition, by combining innovation and technology, and unlocking its significant reserves of nickel amidst a global shortage – the much-needed component in lithium-ion battery cells for the burgeoning EV (electric vehicle) industry. The EV battery project is part of Indonesia’s comprehensive downstream industry. Furthermore, officials will unveil how the Indonesia Battery Corporation is set to become a global leader in the provision of EV batteries to the global audience.

Indonesia’s commitment to play a significant role in driving change to achieve shared global goals of net zero emissions is marked by attracting major clean and green energy investment projects and other transformative investment projects which will be highlighted by ministers.
