Jenson Jenkins is named South West's Most Promising Young Apprentice

Jenson Jenkins, from Machen, South Wales, has been named the south west’s most promising apprentice at this year’s Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Young Achiever Awards.

Jenson works full-time with day release as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor within the Commercial Department of Forest Traffic Services Ltd. He completed his Construction & The Built Environment Level 3 Diploma in June of this year and is now enrolled onto an HNC in Construction & The Built Environment, with an expected completion date of June 2024; Forest will then support Jenson by enrolling him onto a BSc (Hons) course in Quantity Surveying at university.

He received the award for his outstanding work on a variety of projects over the last two years, including the commercial delivery on National Highways’ construction works and scheme delivery frameworks in the South West, as well as multiple sub-contract packages. He also assists the Group Commercial Manager on the multi-million pound A465 Heads of Valley scheme.

Speaking at the presentation in Torquay, Phil Ramsden, Chair, CECA (South West), said: “Congratulations to Jenson, who has made an exceptional start to his career and certainly has a bright future ahead of him in the industry.

“There are huge opportunities opening up in our industry for college leavers, graduates and people looking for a change of career, with more than a dozen major infrastructure projects due to start in the South West over the next year or so. Now is a great time to be joining our industry.”

The CECA South West Young Achiever Awards are presented annually in recognition of exceptional performance, with each winner receiving a trophy and cheque for £500.
