Review of Poems to Inspire You
Poems to Inspire You is the latest anthology of poetry from Dr Kaltume Akubo. Comprising of no less than 50 poems, the collection is reviewed here by Robert Helens, father, husband, and entrepreneur.
“This book is billed as a collection of inspirational poems for motivation that are meant to help you find your strength, be kinder to yourself, feel empowered, uplifted, and understand your purpose in life. Whether you’re looking for a little boost of positivity or want to find meaningful words to share with family and friends, this book has something for everyone.
“I was asked as a man to review this book, as it was thought a male perspective may be bring a fresh thinking to the success and commentary of the book. As a man, I do need boosts of positivity, enjoy meaningful words and sometimes need help to find my strength, so I opened the pages intrigued as to what I would find.
“I have a strange habit of reading poetry books backwards, and sometimes that back fires if the theme only travels one way. So, I started with a poem called Everything Will Fall In Place. I loved it. Ploughing into more and more of the poems, I took away lines such as your mind is a weapon, The world is waiting for your talent, and The Truth matters in the first five minutes of reading.
“This is powerful writing, inspiring and has a motivation that drives you forward to apply the thinking from the poem to your own life. Dr Kaltume is an insightful women and reading in her bio that she likes to be called Peace, has a ring of authenticity to it. That level of peace comes across in much of her writing.
“The words are crafted to make you feel good, potent and determined to be ‘the hero’, to keep doing good work and to not be average. She reminds us in poem after poem that we need to be the change, to use our courage to make a difference and to dare to dream.
“Absolutely inspired writing, authoritative messaging and a reminder of what we are here for. Bravo Dr Kaltume. You blew me away!”
