Scott Bros Rids Zoe's Place Baby Hospice Of Green Waste Ready For Christmas Fundraiser

Scott Bros has donated its services to ensure the grounds of Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice is in pristine condition as the charity prepares for its Christmas lights spectacular.

However, volunteers tidying up outside the hospice in Middlesbrough discovered that piles of unsightly branches and leaves had accumulated by the perimeter wall.

With its budget focused on delivering care, Alison Taylor, the charity’s community and events fundraiser (Middlesbrough) issued an appeal for help which was answered by Scott Bros director, Peter Scott.

The family-run company sent a grab wagon to remove the green waste from the Normanby hospice free of charge, returning it to Scott Bros’ facility near Stockton where it was recycled and converted into compost.

Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice offers respite, palliative and end of life care to babies and children up to five-years-old with life threatening or limiting conditions, as well as providing family and bereavement support. It must raise £1.1m each year to provide its services free to all families accessing its facilities.

This year its fundraising Christmas Fair and lights switch on will be held on Friday 18th November and features festive stalls, a hog roast, and refreshments – together with Father Christmas in his grotto.

The garden is open from 4pm to 7pm with visitors invited to make a suggested donation on arrival, plus an additional £1 to see Santa, with every child receiving a free gift.

Alison said: “We were in the process of preparing to ensure everything is ready for our annual Christmas lights spectacular when we discovered piles of wind-blown green waste.

“It’s the result of an accumulation of branches and leaves that have gathered throughout the pandemic period when we didn’t have the resources or the volunteers available to keep on top of such things.

“A huge thanks to Scott Bros for ensuring our grounds will be neat and tidy for one of our big events of the year.

“We hope people will bring their family and friends to enjoy the lights, which also creates a great deal of enjoyment for those we care for.”

Peter Scott added: “The support that Zoe’s Place provides is crucial at what is one of the most difficult times a family will ever face. Scott Bros is honoured to help the charity in any way it can.”
