Sheffield lawyers announce sponsorship with top-flight futsal league

Sheffield’s MD Law has kicked off a two year sponsorship deal with the FA National Futsal Series.

The law firm’s logo will be emblazoned on the shirts worn by all the referees operating in tier 1 of the series, a new top-flight futsal league established by The FA in 2019 to take the men and women’s game to the next level in England.

The sport, and series, which recently attracted an audience of 92,000 viewers, is currently being screened on BT Sport and YouTube, and is on the up with participation numbers and interest at an all time high. The first BT Sport games of the season will be screened this weekend (19/20 November).

Forty four teams now play in the series with seven divisions, with MD Law sponsoring the referees in the tier 1 matches featuring eight men’s and seven women’s teams based across the country from Durham to Southend.

Carl Jones, solicitor and partner at MD Law, has been a futsal referee in the FIFA approved version of five-a-side football since 2010, and says the sponsorship deal, means a national profile for the Sheffield law firm.

He said: “MD Law is proud to become the main sponsor for the referees in the National Futsal Series. We are thrilled to see our name on referees’ training tops, tracksuits, and match shirts in this thriving sport over the next two years. This is our first major national profile sports sponsorship and an opportunity to raise our profile, support a growing sport and be seen by thousands of sports fans across the globe.

“From a personal perspective I have been involved in futsal for 12 years and love the sport, the camaraderie and the community of futsal.”

Chris Parkin, director & LMC chair of the National Futsal Series said: “We are delighted to welcome MD Law on board to the National Futsal Series, especially providing sponsorship to the often overlooked third team operating on every match! We hope that this is a start of long term partnership with MD Law.”

Marc Birkett, FA National Futsal referees development officer, said: “We are really pleased to see MD Law and the FA NFS working in partnership to help develop the game. This sponsorship will allow our team of match officials the benefits of new equipment which creates a positive impression, not only through the camera lenses, but that impression helps to build collectiveness amongst our futsal officials.”

The 13-strong team, which includes Partners Matthew Dixon, Neil Kelly, Carl Jones, Kelly Wharin and James Burdekin acts for, and advises, insolvency professionals, businesses and individuals across the country in the fields of Insolvency, Dispute Resolution, Corporate, Commercial and Finance.
