Are Crash Course Driving Lessons Right for You?
As far as rites of passage go, few are more monumental or memorable than getting your hands on your provisional driving licence. It’s the single best 17th birthday present on Earth, paving the way for a one-way ticket to total motoring freedom.
That is, once you have addressed the small issue of learning to drive from scratch, and being handed your full driving licence.
Where time is a factor (or you would simply prefer not to wait), intensive driving lessons in Didsbury or any local area you reside in, could be just the thing. As most people know, crash-course driving lessons make it possible to progress to a full course of driver tuition and take a practical test within a couple of weeks.
All well and good, but are crash course driving lessons really as beneficial as their conventional counterparts? More importantly, is an intensive driving course right for you?
What are crash course driving lessons?
With regular driving lessons, 40 to 50 hours of tuition are spaced out over the course of several months. With an intensive driving course, the same 40 to 50 hours of tuition is condensed into a period of one to four weeks.
This means that you cover the same essential driving knowledge and competencies and are expected to build the same safe and confident driving skills – irrespective of which pathway you choose. It’s just that with an intensive driving course, the whole thing can be wrapped up much more quickly.
Are there benefits to an intensive driving course?
If your goal is to get your hands on your driving license as quickly as possible, an intensive course is well worth considering. Likewise, if you already have some driving experience (past lessons, driving practice in private cars etc.) you may find intensive driving lessons ideal for you.
In addition, crash course driving lessons can work out more cost-effective than regular driving lessons. When you pay for a block of driving lessons all at once, you pay a lower per-hour rate than if you booked ad-hoc.
Meanwhile, some find the shorter gaps between lessons in an intensive course advantageous; a better option than taking a single hourly lesson once every fortnight, for example and giving them too much time for their developing skills to go rusty between lessons.
Are there cons to an intensive driving course?
On the downside, some are understandably sceptical about paying significant sums of money upfront for an intensive driving course. Elsewhere, others do not have the means at their disposal to cover the full costs of their driver tuition up-front.
In addition, learning to drive from scratch in a single week could mean missing out on any number of real-world driving experiences. For example, you may drive exclusively in warm and sunny weather at fairly quiet times, gaining no experience of driving in the dark, the rain, or in rush hour traffic.
A good driving instructor will do their best to familiarise you with as many real-world driving conditions as possible, but much of it will be beyond their control.
Are crash course driving lessons right for you?
If you can comfortably afford the up-front payment and would like to get your hands on your full driving license as quickly as possible, crash course driving lessons could be for you. Likewise, if you are confident in your existing driving capabilities (or believe you will pick up the basics quite quickly), you could be the perfect candidate for an intensive driving course.
Elsewhere, those who would prefer to take their time and progress more gradually may find conventional driving lessons a better option. Likewise, if the thought of getting behind the wheel terrifies you and you would prefer to progress at a more gradual pace, you may be better suited to regular driving lessons.
