Digital-first home healthcare “pioneer” celebrates 6th birthday following £265m funding
This week, Europe’s largest provider of digital-first home healthcare, Cera, is celebrating six years of digitising the sector and changing the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of society.
In celebration of this milestone, London headquartered Cera has revealed that to date, its team of carers and nurses have now delivered 30 million at-home care visits.
With more than 50,000 care visits made each day to over 20,000 patients, the healthcare-at-home “pioneer” is equivalent in capacity to 50 NHS hospitals, relieving pressure from the wider health service by delivering effective care in the comfort of home, at a tenth of the cost.
One of Cera’s “significant achievements” this year was securing the UK’s largest Health Tech fundraise in 2022 of $320m (approx. £265m), to expand from servicing 15,000 to 100,000 at-home patients each day. This cemented Cera’s place in Europe’s digital-first home healthcare market, having already grown 100-fold in under three years.
Its technology-powered model works by collecting patient symptoms and health data during at-home appointments, which data analytics then use to predict deterioration in conditions, triggering earlier health interventions.
Already proven to reduce hospitalisation rates by an unprecedented 52 per cent and predict up to 80 per cent of hospitalisations seven days in advance. Cera’s award-winning app monitors data points and has the ability to automatically detect worsening conditions 30 times faster than traditional methods.
As the care industry in the UK continues to expand in response to growing demand, with the number of people over the age of 85 set to double in the next 25 years, Cera has recruited thousands of new carers over the course of the last 12 months, with 60 per cent new to the sector.
Through a digitised recruitment and training programme, Cera is able to recruit carers at a cost of four times less than its competitors. Today, Cera has almost 10,000 employees across the UK and Germany.
Dr Ben Maruthappu MBE, CEO and co-founder of Cera, said: “It has been a whirlwind six years since we founded Cera and we are so proud to see how far we’ve come and all that we’ve achieved. It goes without saying that we have faced challenging times through the pandemic, but the Cera team has continued to show resilience and strength throughout.
“Delivering the best possible care for our patients has always been our top priority, and we are delighted to announce today that we have hit the 30 million visits milestone. All of this has been made possible by the hard work and dedication of our staff, so a huge thank you to each and every member of the Cera family. We’re excited to see what the future holds.”
