Eagles Community Foundation Receives Donation From Newcastle-Based WilliamsAli
Proud Newcastle Eagles sponsor WilliamsAli continues to support Eagles Community Foundation as its inaugural Charity of the Year.
“As many people know we have proudly sponsored the Newcastle Eagles basketball team in the past and continue to do so”, said Phil Williams, co-founder at WilliamsAli.
“Therefore it only felt right to consider the Foundation when we were choosing the inaugural WilliamsAli Charity of the Year”.
Launched in 2006, the Eagles Community Foundation runs a broad range of outreach activity, including award-winning Hoops 4 Health programme, which engages young people with healthy lifestyles using basketball as a key exercise.
Alongside outreach, the foundation operates 13 junior community basketball clubs across the region at which participants are taught how to play as a team and understand the outcomes of both winning and losing.
According to recent stats more than one million British people regularly play basketball and among those aged 18-34, 14% play every week. This makes it Britain’s joint-second most popular team sport which is evidenced with the Eagles junior club membership standing at almost 2,000 players training weekly.
“The game of basketball is becomingly increasingly popular with the younger generation which makes the work of the Foundation even more relevant”, added Abu Ali, co-founder at WilliamsAli.
“We have witnessed the great things that the Foundation does in our region and continue to work on ides for how we can fundraise to support their work”.
As match sponsors for Friday 2nd December’s BBL game, WilliamsAli co-founders Phil Williams and Abu Ali made a special half-time presentation to the Eagles Community Foundation for £1,219 raised from their hugely successful recent corporate golf day.
“The Foundation relies solely on external funding to deliver all our programmes”, said Sam Blake, Chief Executive Officer at Eagles Community Foundation.
“It’s great to have a business like WilliamsAli supporting our young people and raising much-needed funds to enable us to continue the work we do.
“A huge thanks to Abu and Phil for making us their Charity of the Year, we are looking forward to working with them and their team on exciting plans including a corporate 3×3 basketball competition in early 2023.”
