North Wales college in UK top 4 at prestigious world skills Olympics
COLEG CAMBRIA excelled in finishing among the top four FE institutions in the UK at this year’s WorldSkills competition.
The college achieved 18 points with three golds and two silver medals.
Categories were hosted by different locations across the country – including Cambria’s Bersham Road site in Wrexham.
Among those to receive medals were:
Aircraft Maintenance: Gold - Rosie Boddy, Airbus UK; Silver - Tymoteusz Rozanski
Beauty Therapist: Silver - Caitlyn Lawton
Beauty Therapy Practitioner: Gold - Isabella Bailey
Network Infrastructure Technician: Gold - Cameron Thompson
Cambria’s chief executive Yana Williams congratulated them and all eight of the college’s representatives at the WorldSkills finals.
“They are a huge credit to Coleg Cambria and we are so proud of them – well done to you all,” she said.
Learner Experience and Enterprise Manager Rona Griffiths added: “This is a remarkable and impressive feat once again and testimony to the fantastic training, skills development, and calibre of our staff.
“I can only thank them for guiding 143 Coleg Cambria competitors in 25 skills training events this year alone, which is phenomenal. That led us to fourth place in the UK and second in Wales, a brilliant result.
“No-one comes back the same from competing in skills competitions. We all learn something about ourselves from how we act under pressure to what we are capable of and how we can improve in the future, and that includes tutors, judges, and organisers.
“We can all draw from this experience and use what we’ve learned for future tests and challenges in our lives and careers.”
