Yorkshire based healthy food startup hits the ‘sweet spot’ with B Corp certification

Fearne & Rosie Reduced Sugar Jams has been recognised as a certified B Corporation, one of the first healthier jams businesses globally to do so, achieving a high 93.4 B Impact Score.

The Yorkshire based startup, which is “on a mission to bring back the jam into British households” with its more fruit, less sugar range of healthier jams, was awarded B Corp status after meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.

The business, which is committed to “balancing profit and purpose”, was especially commended for its Impact Business Model, via its work with communities and charitable initiatives.

To be a B Corp, a firm must legally consider the impact their decisions have on workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment by using business in a positive way and outside of shareholder profit.

Passionate about providing healthy jam for all, the past year has seen the business reduce waste in its jam production process by using surplus ingredients, including surplus fruit and sugar beet, as well as adopting sustainable sourcing including eco pallet wrapping and recycling content labels.

Moreover, the company has remained true to its original aim of donating at least 2 per cent of revenue to charity through partnerships with BBC Children in Need and FareShare.

Rachel Kettlewell, Fearne & Rosie’s founder, commented: “Here at Fearne & Rosie, we believe that business should be a force for good. Our mission has always been to make a positive impact, focusing on our engagement with and impact on the charities with which we work with.

“We are thrilled to have that recognised with this certification. I believe joining this network of like-minded organisations will drive collective impact and help democratise access to healthier, more sustainable foods.”

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, added: “Being able to welcome Fearne & Rosie to the B Corp community is hugely exciting.

“As a fledgling business and challenger brand, their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to other start-ups and help spread the idea that we can redefine success to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.”
