Newcastle and Leeds based tech firm expands following 180 per cent revenue growth

SPG CEO, Gareth Humphreys is focused on growth across the region following a 180 per cent increase in revenue in the last year with the North East tech firm.

The group, which is made up of three specialist arms for tech talent resourcing, digital transformation and software development, has recorded £9m in revenue in 2022, as well as taking its team from 6 staff to 52 across its offices in Newcastle and Leeds since early 2021.

Gareth commented: “I often think back to being at school in the mid-90s and being told that having a career in technology was just a pipe dream. Now, along with my co-founder Sam Hameed, we’re supporting the North East’s economy and tech ambitions.

“I had every confidence that we had something special at SPG, but to achieve this kind of growth since 2019 when we started with just two people is phenomenal.”

With a further office opening on the cards for 2023, the firm is eyeing up some senior appointments to support its expansion. Matt Jennings will step into the role of managing director at SPG Transformation, which aims to double in size to support the growth of its core target markets in public sector, financial services and health.

Matt added: “I’m delighted to take on the role of Managing Director following a year of successes with SPG. Our specialisms are in designing and delivering Digital Transformation in challenging, highly complex environments.

“Fortunately, it’s where we’ve proven our strengths and we’re well positioned to help organisations scale up their digital operations, whilst still delivering great customer experiences.”

Alongside SPG Transformation, SPG Resourcing is the group’s specialist talent sourcing business that has established offices in Newcastle and Leeds, delivering “first-class talent and retaining the best skills in the region”.

Rounding off the group’s growth strategy is SPG Software, where Gareth hopes to support the region’s Levelling Up aspirations. Gareth continued: “We’re operating on a national scale, but our roots are firmly in the North East.

“For SPG Software, we’re looking at offices in towns and cities outside of Newcastle to attract untapped talent, but to also ensure we’re making an impact on local communities as we realise this growth. Now that we’ve established ourselves, we’re in a great place to accelerate our ambitions, which is a hugely fortunate position to be in.”
