South Tyneside construction supplier expands following “rapid” business growth

A South Tyneside construction machinery supplier has recently expanded its space and has moved into the former DPD depot next door to its Hebburn headquarters at Monkton Business Park to meet rapid business growth.

Hitachi Construction Machinery UK Ltd, which was established 50 years ago and provides specialised construction machinery products renowned for high quality and advanced technology, has acquired the 4.7 acre site next door to facilitate its head office, Connected Technology and production facility expansion.

Following “rapid” company growth over the last 12 months, which has seen the workforce increase from 200 to 275 across numerous roles including engineering, production, finance, HR and payroll, the company is now looking to expand further in the first half of 2023.

The company has also pledged to support the economic growth and welfare of South Tyneside, and with support from South Tyneside Council, has recently signed up to the Better Health at Work programme and completed their bronze award, as well sponsoring Hebburn Football Club and also looking at introducing volunteer days for staff in 2023.

Dave Roberts, CEO at HCMUK, commented: “As a growing company, we are constantly on the lookout for the right talent to fill roles right across the business and regions, not least here in the Hebburn area where our UK HQ is located.

“We have so far recruited a total of 57 new employees this year and the expansion into the adjacent depot space will enable us to continue this growth as we look to recruit for additional roles in 2023.

“This near 12-acre combined site will be an industry leading facility, increasing our capacities and bringing together two of our core business functions, namely new machine production and Hitachi Connected Technology (HCT).

“We are keen to recruit locally, and 2023 will see the launch of our apprentice scheme as we welcome young people into our business providing training & development programmes to upskill the next generation.

“We have taken steps to improve the wellbeing of our employees, providing benefits which many people now look out for in the recruitment process. With our head office based in Hebburn, signing up to the South Tyneside Pledge was a business decision we made as a whole and we’re looking forward to helping our economy prosper.”

Cllr Tracey Dixon, leader of South Tyneside Council and Chair of South Tyneside Partnership, added: “Hitachi’s expansion into new space next door to its Hebburn HQ will be fantastic for South Tyneside and its economic growth, helping bring in jobs and prosperity to the area.”
