Global demand for green energy fuels Darlington expansion

Global demand for green energy is fuelling the expansion of subsea technical advisors Primo Marine, based at Business Central in Darlington.

The firm has now expanded its office requirements in Darlington as part of its growth plans. Its specialists provide technical advice to owners, operators and developers of major subsea power cable projects ranging from power cable interconnection and offshore wind farms to new technologies including hydrogen, floating wind and offshore solar.

Primo Marine’s 40 staff are based at offices in The Netherlands, Germany, and the UK and Managing Director Daryl Lynch said the firm’s continuous recruitment demonstrates its commitment to the North East.

“We moved to Business Central in 2019 and we’ve been recruiting ever since because we’ve found such a rich pool of talent. We now have seven staff in Darlington and we’ll continue to add to that number. Those staff are playing an important role in the greenifaction of the world’s energy supplies by providing expertise to global businesses.”

Primo Marine has moved into a corner office at the Central Park business centre and taken a second office to give staff the option of a quiet space.

Vanessa Wood, centre manager at Business Central added: “The beauty of being based at Business Central is that our tenants can grow into a new office without having to change address. Primo Marine now has the capacity to continue building on its success and we look forward to seeing what’s next in the growth plan.”

Business Central and neighbouring sister site Innovation Central are owned by Darlington Borough Council and are managed by the North East BIC. They provide a connected business community at the heart of the town’s Central Park development, offering a choice of coworking, office and lab space along with meeting rooms, events and shared services designed to help today’s entrepreneurs to innovate and thrive.
