Local MP visits construction site for Kempston retirement community

This week, Mohammad Yasin MP visited the construction site for The Newells, a brand-new retirement community, on Manor Drive in Kempston, Bedfordshire.

The MP donned a hard hat and high viz jacket to help lay a brick and view plans for the 60 age-exclusive apartments with Sales and Marketing Director for Adlington Retirement Living, Alexandra Johnson, and Site Managers Ian Fowler and Tony Fowkes.

Mr Yasin said: “It was a pleasure to visit the construction site of The Newells and meet the team. I know how important it is for people to be able to maintain their independence into retirement. This development will allow them to do that while living in the heart of our community. I look forward to returning and meeting new homeowners when the project is completed.”

Alexandra Johnson added: “We enjoyed welcoming Mr Yasin to the site of The Newells and discussing economic growth in the area and the need for more suitable accommodation to support older homeowners.

“As a dynamic family owned and run business, Adlington Retirement Living designs, builds and operates its own retirement communities. That enables us to maintain the high standards of quality and customer service that set us apart.

“Health and well-being are at the heart of everything we do. We want our homeowners to thrive and feel their best and spend more time doing more of the things they love. We focus on creating positive experiences for all our homeowners, and that goes way beyond a retirement apartment.

“Well-being doesn’t mean the same thing to everybody. For some people, it’s about maintaining or improving physical wellness and staying physically active. For others, mental health and combatting loneliness is more important.

“Our vision is to empower the older generation to live a long, happy and healthy life. We do that by creating safe and secure environments with thriving communities, extensive facilities, and spacious, quality homes, providing an opportunity to enjoy retirement to the full.”

The Newells, an Adlington Retirement Living community specially designed for those over the age of 55, is set to complete in Autumn 2023 and is currently taking off-plan reservations.

The communal facilities will include a homeowners’ lounge, coffee lounge, on-site restaurant, hair salon, therapy room, and activities studio, all of which can be used by homeowners as an extension of their own private apartment. A guest suite, equipped with a kitchenette and en-suite, will also be available for friends and family visiting overnight.

A range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments will include quality fitted kitchens with integrated appliances, many will feature en-suite shower rooms and separate bathrooms, and most will have walk-out balconies or a patio area overlooking the beautifully landscaped gardens.

The 24-hour on-site support team will provide homeowners with added peace of mind and, if needed, optional tailored care packages. In addition to this, there will be a sophisticated emergency call system and a security video entry system to manage access.

When the retirement community opens later this year, it will create a number of new jobs from the General Manager and six Duty Managers to the cleaning team, chefs, catering team, maintenance technicians and gardeners.

Four of Adlington’s sites have won Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for the Best Retirement Development at the WhatHouse? Awards, the UK housebuilding’s most prestigious event. The Folds in Romiley and the Bridges in Macclesfield won the Silver Award in 2020 and 2019, Adlington House in Otley won the Gold Award in 2017 and Adlington House in Portishead won the Bronze Award in 2015.

Adlington Retirement Living was also crowned Seniors Housing Developer of the Year (pipeline) and its new retirement community in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, won Seniors Housing Scheme of the Year at the HealthInvestor Seniors Housing Awards 2022.
