Midlands construction firm lands first contract of landmark year
A leading Midlands construction firm has landed the first contract of a landmark year. MCS Group, based in Warwick, is celebrating its 20th anniversary and has been selected to deliver a major development in the county which could help create 100 jobs.
Warwickshire Property & Development Group (WPDG) is creating 42,000 sq ft industrial scheme at Holywell Business Park which is part of the Kineton Road Industrial Estate in Southam and it will be constructed by MCS.
The firm will build nine units between 1,900 sq ft and 15,000 sq ft to suit a range of businesses in what is WPDG’s first construction project.
WPDG was established by Warwickshire County Council in 2021 to realise the potential of its development sites, commercial buildings and mineral rights in the most sustainable way as possible.
Keir Edmonds, of MCS, said it was a fitting contract to start the company’s anniversary year.
He said: “We deliver projects right across the country and are very active in the M25 corridor, but we are very much rooted in Warwickshire so it is always rewarding to be chosen to deliver a project that will make a difference to the local economy. “WPDG is working to help the county realise the potential of its assets which will in turn help create jobs which can only be good four our local area, and we are really excited to be delivering its first construction project.”
MCS has delivered several projects in Warwickshire in recent years including a new Volvo dealership and a £10 million office refurbishment project, both on Tachbrook Park, Warwick. The company is due to start on site next month with completion expected in the winter of 2022.
Councillor Peter Butlin, Deputy Leader of Warwickshire County Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance and Property “We went out to competitive tender for this contract and it is really great that a local firm with a national reputation emerged successful.
“Not only will the development create local jobs and bring more economic vitality to the area, but the awarding of the contract for a firm based locally, that employs local people is also very good news.”
Ian Cox, chair of WPDG added: “This development is designed to appeal to a range of businesses in terms of sectors and sizes, and will help the pipeline of growing and successful firms which is key to healthy economy.”
Kineton Road Industrial Estate is the main employment site in Southam and is home to a range of local, national and international businesses include Al-Ko Kober, DYWIDAG and Alumet Systems.
