Sheffield housebuilder unveils plans for £23.5m South Yorkshire development

Sheffield based housebuilder Honey has submitted plans to deliver a £23.5m development comprising 95 new two, three and four-bedroom homes on Barnburgh Lane, Barnsley.

Called Iris, if planning is granted the eight-acre development will be the Sheffield based housebuilding company’s first in Yorkshire since launching last October.

Honey was founded by former Avant Homes chief executive officer and Sheffield native, Mark Mitchell. The company is being funded by private equity firm Alchemy Partners via its Alchemy Special Opportunities Fund IV which has £937m of fully committed capital.

At the start of this year, Honey announced it had submitted its first planning application to build a £14m, 50 home development in the village of South Normanton in Derbyshire. Iris will feature 16 house types which Honey says have all been specifically designed to combine “style, substance and sustainability” for the benefit of buyers.

A four-bedroom showhome will be built on the development and prices will start from £170k for a two-bedroom mid-terrace property. If given the go ahead by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, work at Iris is anticipated to start in June with the first residents expected to move into their new homes in the first quarter of next year.

“We now look forward to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council considering our plans to deliver much needed new homes for the residents of Barnburgh and surrounding areas.”

Honey has analysed consumer insights and trends to inform its house type designs to ensure they meet the needs and wants of today’s new home buyers, including the flexible use of all living spaces.

Standard features in every Honey home include bi fold doors; individually designed fully integrated kitchens; and boutique style bathrooms with a signature freestanding bath and full height tiling. All properties will have an electric vehicle charging point.

In addition, the house types will accommodate the Future Homes Standard which requires all new homes being built from 2025 onwards to produce 75-80 per cent less carbon emissions.
