Award-winning Whitley Bay Italian restaurant expands food and drink offering

An award-winning Whitley Bay deli and trattoria has extended its food and drink offer and is now able to sell alcohol for patrons wishing to drop by for drinks alone, thanks to an expansion to its alcohol licence.

Popular family-run deli and trattoria Pranzo, which has been a “huge hit” in the two years since opening, has won several awards including two categories in the 2022 English Italian Awards (Best Trattoria and Best Newcomer in England and Wales).

Pranzo promises “authentic” Italian pasta, pizza, and street food both in the restaurant, on the alfresco terrace as well as take away.

Pranzo owner Pablo Masucci commented: “My wife Louise and I pride ourselves on working closely with local producers as well as speciality Italian artisans, and have created a menu that appeals to all ages and is suitable for all events.

“We have focussed on expanding our wine offering to complement our new menu, and our wine list is sourced directly from Italian vineyards and features classics such as Gavi di Gavi, Chianti Classico, Aglianico Porconero, Barolo 2016 DOCG and Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore.

“In addition, having recently invested in the Le Verre de Vin Wine & Champagne preservation system, this means that we are now able to offer the best quality Italian wines and champagne by the glass. Cin! Cin!”

On a Wednesday and Thursday evening, as well as its much-loved pizza on the menu, Pranzo also offers a pasta menu dedicated to a different region of Italy each week which is a “sure way to increase your knowledge and appreciation” of Italian food and wine, and has proven “extremely popular”.
