South London family launches “UK’s first street slime store” in local shopping centre
Lewisham Shopping Centre has announced that Gootopia, the UK’s first high street slime store, is opening on March 21 in a 1,600 sq ft unit located in the South Mall. The store will also feature ‘Goo-to-Go’, the world’s first slime vending machine.
Gootopia is the brainchild of Lewisham family Chris Saville and Nishi Bowan Saville, who founded slime party venue Slime Planet in Brixton in 2019 after their children became “obsessed with slime making”.
The store will feature shelves of ready-made slime, slime ingredients and activators. It will also offer a range of activities and experiences, including weekend slime workshops, birthday parties, drop-in slime-making sessions, school science workshops, and live slime-making demonstrations by expert slime creators.
Nishi Bowan Saville, co-founder of Gootopia, commented: “Our children absolutely love slime and their passion is our passion, which led us to launching a slime party venue. It’s been a great success. There is a lot of love for slime out there, so we’ve taken the next step up and opened this slime store, the first of its kind in the UK.
“Gootopia will stock both ready-made slime, as well as all the ingredients and activators for families to make at home. It is a space where children of all ages can come to explore and create with slime.
“We’re also excited to introduce our Goo-to-Go machine, the world’s first slime vending machine, and our brand-new pre-school workshops, GooGooGaGa. We love giving kids an experience where they get the opportunity to create something they can be proud of, without worrying about making a mess.”
Paul Redden, centre director at Lewisham Shopping Centre, added: “We are delighted to welcome a great local company like Gootopia to our brand line-up. We think it’s a UK first and we know the store will be a huge hit with families not just in the local area but beyond.
“The interactive workshops are a perfect way to keep the kids entertained come rain or shine and we can’t wait to see them get stuck in creating their own slime sensations.”
