Loganair’s Newcastle expansion takes off
Loganair’s biggest-ever Newcastle schedule has taken to the skies, offering easier and faster connections for the city across key destinations in the UK and beyond.
The UK’s largest regional airline is offering customers access to almost 200,000 seats from today (Mon 27 March) with new flights to Aberdeen and Oslo and more flights to Southampton available from the North East.
Loganair has based a second permanent Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft at Newcastle Airport, increasing skilled employment in the region and boosting the local economy. The additional aircraft also continues to offer customers jet comfort on its routes in and out of the city.
The expansion plans feature the return of up to double daily flights to Aberdeen, together with the addition of a Newcastle to Oslo via Aberdeen route, where passengers boarding at Newcastle can stay on the plane until disembarkation in Norway. Customers will also be able to fly from Newcastle to Newquay and Bergen twice a week, while flights to Exeter have been boosted from three to up to five per week.
Meanwhile, the weekly Aberdeen to Southampton service connects via Newcastle and the plans are topped-off by a return to the pre-Pandemic frequency of up to five flights per week between Newcastle and Stavanger.
Loganair’s chief commercial officer, Luke Lovegrove, said: “It feels great to see the first flights take off in what is our biggest-ever offering for Newcastle. The city and wider region has so much to offer from a cultural, historical and industrial point of view, and that’s reflected in the popularity of services into the city over the past year.
“Our expansion here underlines our commitment to the city and its Airport, with our biggest-ever programme also coming hot on the heels of our recent partnership with Newcastle Falcons.”
Leon McQuaid, director of aviation development at Newcastle International Airport, said: “Today marks the beginning of Loganair’s biggest ever flight programme from Newcastle International Airport, providing the region with even more choice from Newcastle on the UK’s largest regional airline.
“The connection between Newcastle and Aberdeen is vital for the region’s economy and many businesses who operate in the offshore sector, so we are delighted to see the return of double daily flights to Aberdeen, together with the addition of a Newcastle to Oslo via the Aberdeen route.”
