Bellway London to begin work on next stage of “major” Dartford regeneration project
Work is about to commence on the next stage of a “major” regeneration project in Dartford town centre.
Bellway London will begin demolition on site in May to pave the way for the fourth phase of apartment buildings at its 711-home Copperhouse Green development. Phase four will consist of 71 homes being built across two adjoining apartment blocks. Construction is due to commence in July, after demolition work has finished.
More than 250 homes have now been completed at Copperhouse Green, transforming land previously occupied by the Dartford Brewery and a derelict retail parade into a modern residential neighbourhood.
The development, which is due to be finished in 2028, is being built in five phases across 19 apartment blocks on land between Lowfield Street and Central Park. The first two phases, comprising 276 homes, are completed, and work is already well underway on the third phase of 280 homes.
Emma Hamlett, sales director at Bellway London, commented: “Copperhouse Green is a landmark development which is delivering much-needed new homes for Dartford while revitalising a previously derelict site in the heart of the town.
“We have reached a significant milestone after completing work on more than a third of the apartments across the entire site, with our construction team already preparing to begin work on the final two phases.
“Dartford’s town centre had been derelict for more than a decade before we started construction back in 2019 – and we aim to complete the transformation of this disused brownfield site into a vibrant and attractive neighbourhood within the next five years.”
The recently completed second phase at Copperhouse Green comprises 188 homes at the northern end of the site which will eventually house a new café and microbrewery, which is set to open in the building currently occupied by Bellway’s sales centre, once construction work on the whole site is completed.
The third phase of 280 homes currently under construction is located to the south and east of phase four, while the southernmost section of the site comprises the now-completed first phase of 88 apartments and the fifth and final phase of 84 homes, where work is due to start in 2026.
Emma added: “Copperhouse Green is proving extremely popular with both local buyers and London commuters, thanks to its prime position next to the 26-acre Central Park and within walking distance of the town centre and railway station.”
