New £30m English Riviera Hotel ‘spearheads new era’ for South Devon town
The Mercure Paignton Hotel, a new four star hotel in South Devon, has announced it will be open to visitors and local residents on April 6.
The Mercure Paignton Hotel, which is owned by Singapore based Fragrance Group, franchised by the “world class” Accor group and operated by RBH Hospitality, is the latest addition to Accor’s global portfolio of 5,300 franchised properties, located across 110 plus countries.
Accor’s Mercure brand, which combines the strength of an international network with “genuine and local” hospitality experiences, aims to become the “leading global Midscale brand with the largest network of hotels” by 2030.
Situated in a “prime location” on the seafront, the Mercure Paignton Hotel will deliver a “special experience” for guests with “stunning” views of the coast, promenade, pier and beach, 161 bedrooms, a glass fronted restaurant and a two tier mediterranean style terrace complete with an outside bar.
The Mercure Paignton Hotel and the Ibis Styles Hotel, due to open on the seafront later this year, signifies an investment from the Fragrance Group in the local area of £30m. This coincides with Torbay Council’s commitment to improving Paignton promenade and its sea defences, as part of the Paignton and Preston seafront masterplan.
Martin Rogers, managing director of the Global Hotels & Leisure Consultancy, which acts on behalf of Fragrance Group, commented: “We are delighted to be opening this new 161 bedroom Hotel in partnership with Accor and RBH. Our thanks go to Brady Construction in particular. We wish Jason Parry and his team every success.”
Jason Parry, general manager for Mercure Paignton Hotel, added: “The Mercure Paignton Hotel is a hugely exciting project and one which promises a new age of prosperity for the area.
“In addition to enhancing Paignton’s appeal for visitors from across the South West region and the UK, the hotels are set to deliver many benefits for the local economy, such as a boost for Riviera tourism and employment for local people.”
The Mercure Paignton Hotel will provide standard doubles and “luxurious” Privilege sea-view rooms, as well as an all-day locally influenced dining experience in its Latitude 50 restaurant.
Business visitors are also catered for, with two flexible event spaces for conferences and meetings, and options to combine a stay with the many team orientated activities on offer in the area, from adventure sports to coastal hikes.
