Canterbury College Student Holly Shepard Brings Fresh Perspective to Madeira Lodge Care Home

Eighteen-year-old Holly Shepard, a student at Canterbury College studying Health and Social Care, is gaining valuable work experience at Madeira Lodge Care Home in New Romney.

As part of her placement, she is receiving mentoring from Adele Grant, the care home’s Activities Coordinator, who is helping her develop her skills and knowledge in caring for older people to fulfill her ambitions of one day becoming a care home manager.

Passionate about helping others Holly and has always been interested in a career in health and social care. Under Adele’s guidance, Holly is learning how to communicate effectively with older people, how to provide personal care with dignity and respect, and how to create engaging activities that enhance the residents’ wellbeing.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work at Madeira Lodge Care Home and learn from Adele,” said Holly. “It’s been a fantastic experience so far, and I feel like I am learning so much every day. I am grateful for the chance to gain practical experience and develop my skills in caring for older people.”

Madeira Lodge Care Home is passionate about helping young people like Holly gain practical experience and develop their skills in caring for older people. The home believes that mentoring is an essential part of the learning process and is committed to providing Holly with the support and guidance she needs to succeed in her future career.

Holly has impressed the staff at Madeira Lodge Care Home with her dedication and passion for caring for older people. She has applied for a job as a carer at the care home and is eager to continue her work with the residents.

“We believe Holly would be a valuable addition to the care home’s team. Madeira Lodge Care Home is currently reviewing Holly’s application and is excited about the possibility of having her as part of their care team.” Said Gaynor.
