New work drives growth and jobs at North East RWO’s geotechnical department
North East engineering firm RWO has won a raft of new geotechnical services work as it continues to develop its operations and invest in its workforce.
The move sees the Newcastle-based firm providing ground investigation to support residential housing development work at Wynyard Village for Cameron Hall Developments and an undisclosed North East developer in County Durham.
The Wynyard work involves a combined environmental and geotechnical ground investigation on a 12ha plot of former woodland to obtain data on the properties of the underlying soils.
On land near Consett, combined ground investigation work comprising trial pits and boreholes for soil characterisation and the investigation of potential shallow coal workings is also being undertaken. The results of this work are being used to support the planning process and provide detailed ground related information for the client’s residential development plans.
As well as the above ground investigation works, RWO is also supervising the remediation of an undisclosed former colliery site in Tyne and Wear. This site is heavily contaminated with hydrocarbons and RWO is providing supervision and advice to the client and contractor, covering the removal, treatment and validation of the clean up to ensure it is safe for proposed residential development.
The undisclosed contracts come on the back of rapid growth for new RWO’s geotechnical department as commercial and residential developers bring forward their investment and regeneration plans. The company is currently looking to recruit additional geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineers to join its team based at its office in Stokesley, North Yorkshire.
Head of the geotechnical department Chris Rudd said the firm was investing further to secure the skills and resources to provide solutions for complex ground engineering problems.
He added: “It’s great to secure these new contracts, which strengthens our relationship with both clients as a go-to specialist ground engineering provider. The work reflects the high-quality ground investigation and surveying expertise available in the North East to developers’ bringing forward multi-million-pound infrastructure and inward investment projects.”
Working with leading house builders and construction companies, the company provides planning, flood risk analysis, geotechnical engineering, environmental consultancy, ground investigation, design expertise and local authority sewage adoption agreements among a range of engineering support for regional and national house builders and construction and infrastructure projects.
