S Nicholson & Sons completes refurbishment of 39 rooms at Redworth Hall Hotel
Bespoke painting and decorating service S Nicholson & Sons has completed the refurbishment of 39 rooms at historic Redworth Hall Hotel in Heighington, County Durham.
The Bishop Auckland-based company has been involved in the rolling project that spanned two months to ensure minimal disruption to the operation of the four star hotel.
The Grade II-listed Jacobean building is set in 26 acres of landscaped grounds and dates to 1693, when it was built as a private home for the Surtees family, a military family with a long attachment to the Durham Light Infantry.
Converted into a hotel in 1987, it has been remodelled to include spa and conferencing facilities and last changed hands in 2016 when it was purchased by the current operator, premium leisure group operator Cairn Hotel Group.
The sophisticated new bedrooms are finished in muted lilac paintwork with white detailing to complement the feature Tektura Fiore bedhead wall covering, with floral elements in shades of green, lilac, and beige. Carpets in beige and brown also accent the sleek white furniture, while the chairs are upholstered in a bold teal fabric.
Lee Kirtland, the hotel’s manager, said: “We are dedicated to constantly improving our guest experience and that includes ensuring our 143 rooms remain fresh, smart, and welcoming.
“We are delighted to once again be working with S Nicholson & Sons, who are expert in working with listed buildings and always provide a quality finish.”
Previously its team of time served professionals worked on the refurbishment of the hotel’s Great Hall, which features a high ceiling and Minstrel’s Gallery, as well as repainting the ceiling in the Prince Bishop Suite, a banqueting suite capable of holding up to 200 people.
Stephen Nicholson, founder and managing director of S Nicholson & Sons, said: “Our team has a long association with Redworth Hall Hotel and we’re proud to play a part in helping maintain this historic building and contributing to its success as one of the North East’s most popular hospitality destinations.”
In January 2019, the hotel unveiled its refurbished Retreat Leisure Club and Spa, which features a 14-metre indoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room. There are also six treatment rooms, tranquillity room, spa reception, hair salon, and The Lounge, which serves an all-day menu. The hotel is also fully licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies.
