How to get good at providing content.

The pandemic forced a change in the working landscape. It also changed the way we consume content. Within 12 months, we were forced onto Zoom to have recorded virtual meetings on camera. That has remained a large part of the way we work in 2023 as we embrace the hybrid model of working. It forced us to look at how we communicate on camera. We have had to learn new techniques with regards body language, eye contact, and facial expressions. Whether or not we like being on camera or not it is a necessary part of our working life now and it is important to get good at it.

Find your personality. Get your message to the market with confidence. It is imperative to overcome your fears and stop it limiting your beliefs when it comes to speaking, and presenting, and camera. It is important to think about how you deliver your message and the strength of the personality behind the brand that you want to convey. Personal branding is important. We’d much rather find out about personality than a corporate brand. It will give you a competitive advantage if you have a great personal brand behind your business. Somebody may well choose to work with you rather than your competitor.

Be honest and authentic. Marketing is a disqualification process as well as a qualification process. There is only a certain proportion of any market that actually wants to work with you. Being honest and authentic will probably split opinions. That is a good thing, because you’re really focusing on those people that you actually do want to work with anyway.

Personal brand is important because it will encourage people to go on a journey with you. Being confident in your personal brand and able to convey it clearly over camera is critical. Presenting is a skill and it needs to be learned. Podcasting is a great step into the world of speaking, because you’re in the comfort of your own home, you’re having a great conversation and you’re getting your message to a wider audience and without having to actually stand on stage or speak in front of 10,000 people in a big arena, for example.

Once you have created a piece of content, it’s evergreen. Make sure it is properly tagged up then it will be searchable forever. Paid advertising has a really finite window. Once the money is used up It’s gone. Working with a coach can help with building your personal brand and using technology bro create content. It will speed up your progress. You can get feedback on your hand gestures, your facial expressions, your voice, and everything that’s going to help you become a dynamic presenter.

Get your message to the market with competence and clarity. The quality of the audio needs to be high. If your video looks scrappy they will think you and your offerings are scrappy. It doesn’t have to be a big investment, either a USB mic, £50 pounds from Amazon. Technology has moved forward at such a pace. You can get world-class quality equipment much cheaper. The development of tablets, smart phones and the miniaturization of computing means we are continuously taking on information.

We’re going to be doing more video over time. If you are using technology to do a sales pitch or a keynote speech - you need to be good at it. People will have confidence in you and want to buy from you.
