“Flagship” East London bakery announces reopening date following refurbishment
“Iconic” American bakery and world-renowned stalwarts on the London dessert scene, The Hummingbird Bakery, will reopen their Head Bakery in Spitalfields on Thursday, June 8.
The biggest in the portfolio at 2,300 sq ft, the Spitalfields branch is located around the corner from Spitalfields Market, 11 Frying Pan Alley, London E1. It is also the “flagship” bakery where visitors can now admire the bakers in action through the open plan kitchen and counter while waiting for their cakes and cupcakes.
The last branch to receive the “stylish” Hummingbird makeover, it will have a customisation station, sleek marble countertops and flashes of ‘signature’ Hummingbird Pink; reflecting the new style of The Hummingbird Bakery.
Along with the classic range customers will find new Eton Mess Red Velvet Ice Cream and Ice Cream Cupcakes, exclusive to Spitalfields. On the opening day there will be some “delicious treats” for customers to sample and visitors can customise their desserts and celebration cakes for free.
Much awaited Red Velvet Affogato will also be on the menu as the summer begins, and the outside seating is back so visitors can enjoy the sunshine while enjoying the cakes and drinks.
Lara Gallie, branch manager at The Hummingbird Bakery Spitalfields, commented: “We look forward to welcoming you to join us in celebrating the reopening of our Spitalfields branch after its fabulous marble make-over. We will be bringing back our guests’ favourite bakes together with exciting new products.
“You will be able to watch our skilled decorators customise your cakes from our new open Decorating Kitchen, with al fresco seating outside for a place to perch and watch the creativity whilst you wait.
“We are summer ready with our Red Velvet Ice Cream Station and we’ll have the all-new Red Velvet Affogato along with brownies, cakes and cookies to crumble over their ice cream. We are so looking forward to brightening up our customers’ days again with our indulgent treats!”
The Hummingbird Bakery was founded in 2004 and is renowned for introducing Red Velvet cakes to Great Britain. Offering a wide range of cupcakes, brownies, cookies, birthday cakes, pies, cheesecakes as well as wedding cakes and bespoke celebration treats.
Having gathered a “legion of loyal followers”, it currently has five bakeries in London, with the much-awaited Soho branch opening this summer.
