Romsey care home transformed into Royal Ascot as residents saddle up for Ladies Day
Glamorous residents at a Romsey care home donned their finest dresses to celebrate Ladies Day at Royal Ascot from the comfort of the home.
Mobile clothes shop Gemini Fashion, which specialise in clothes for older people who are unable to visit the high-street, visited Woodley Grange, in Winchester Hill, in the build up to the event to allow residents to pick out a special outfit with their family for the day.
Many of the residents have a lifelong love of horses with one resident Joyce living just a stones throw from the racecourse.
She said: “I used to live near Ascot and could see the racecourse from the bottom of my garden. I remember watching some of the races.”
Another resident, Marilyn, remembers attending races at Doncaster , Salisbury and Goodwood.
She said: “My dad was a bookmaker and I was allowed to go into his shops. Watching the races brought back lots of lovely memories but even though I drew the favourite in our sweepstakes in the 3.05, I didn’t win!”
The team transformed the home into their very own Royal Ascot with residents taking part in a sweepstakes while watching the races.
The ladies also took part in a hat parade in the afternoon after spending the days leading up to the event decorating their hats for the occasion.
Care home manager Liliana Macieira said: “Our Ladies Day event allows our residents to relive cherished memories and experiences while creating new ones.
“Dressing up and enjoying the glamour of the races gives them a sense of joy and a chance to feel truly special.
“Seeing all the work that had gone into transforming the home from our brilliant team and how much everyone enjoyed the day was magical.
“A big thank you to Gemini Fashion for coming in and helping the ladies pick out a special outfit and the excitement has been building ever since.
“The hat parade was a particular highlight with residents able to showcase their artistic side and display all the hard work that has gone into decorating their outfits.
