Travelodge comes to Peckham and pays homage to Only Fools and Horses
Travelodge, one of the UK’s largest hotel chains, has opened the first branded hotel in Peckham, London, home of the nation’s all time favourite sitcom, Only Fools & Horses. Peckham Travelodge is the group’s 597th hotel and its 80th hotel in London - making it one of London’s biggest hotel chains.
This hotel is one of three Travelodge hotels the group intends to open in London this year. The other two Travelodge hotels are situated at the iconic Oval Cricket Ground and Beckenham which has been voted as one of the best places to live in London.
The capital is also a key growth area for the UK’s first budget hotel chain as Travelodge is currently searching for a further 127 hotel sites across London. This expansion programme would more than double Travelodge’s presence in London and could represent an investment of nearly £3bn for third party investors and create over 6,000 new jobs.
London Peckham Travelodge is situated on Peckham High Street, home of the nation’s all time favourite sitcom, Only Fools and Horses. Peckham High Street, in the programme featured Del Boy’s home, The Nelson Mandela House, favourite pub, restaurant and cafe - The Nags Head, The Star of Bengal and Sid’s Cafe known as the The Fatty Thumb.
To celebrate Travelodge opening the first branded hotel in Peckham, it has paid homage to one of Britain’s most successful sitcoms which has made David Jason (Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter) and Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney Trotter) household names by conducting an Only Fools & Horse Study.
Key findings from the study which surveyed 2,000 British adults revealed that 73% of Britons still love to watch Only Fools and Horses today. Over half, 54% of respondents stated that the sitcom makes them laugh out loud, and it is their ‘go to’ programme to make them happy.
Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge, Spokeswoman said: “We are delighted to open the first branded hotel in London Peckham, which has fast become one of London’s trendiest neighbourhoods. This opening is our 597th Travelodge hotel and our 80th property in London.”
“As we look ahead, London remains a key growth area and we are currently searching for a further 127 sites across the capital to open a Travelodge hotel. This expansion programme would more than double Travelodge’s presence in London and could represent an investment of nearly £3bn for third party investors and create over 6,000 new jobs.”
