Multi-million-pound County Durham specialist care home creates 100 local jobs
Exemplar Health Care, a provider of specialist nursing care for adults living with complex and high acuity needs, has marked the official opening of Tees Grange, its brand new £5.7m care home in Stockton-on-Tees.
Cutting the ribbon to Stockton’s newest care home was the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Cllr Ross Patterson. The Mayor remarked on the substantial need for specialist care facilities in the local area, and commended Exemplar Health Care’s commitment to the region.
Tees Grange is the care provider’s first specialist care home in County Durham, with another under construction in Bishop Auckland. Tees Grange, located in Norton in Stockton-on-Tees, specialises in supporting adults living with complex mental health needs and neuro-disabilities including Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
Without Tees Grange, residents, who have complex and challenging care needs, would otherwise have a prolonged stay in hospital, away from their family and friends. Split into three, ten-bed communities, as small group living provides a more homely, supportive, and responsive care environment, each of the 30 bedrooms has its own ensuite wet room.
Each unit has a communal dining room, lounge, quiet lounge and a sensory bathroom. In addition, there is an activities hub, an accessible garden, hair salon and a therapy room providing a dedicated space for rehabilitation.
The home has created 100 new healthcare jobs in the local area, and unlike many local care homes, will feature a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The home has already recruited a mix of care, nursing and therapeutic specialists, including Healthcare Assistants, Registered Nurses, a Physiotherapist, and an Occupational Therapist.
The new staff team also prides itself on providing person-centred care, empowering residents to maximise their independence, in a way that works for them based on their healthcare needs, providing the support they need to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
Catherine Pearson, home manager at Tees Grange, commented: “I am thrilled to open our doors to the people of Stockton, providing a much needed new, specialist care service to the region.
“Our aim is to make every day better for our residents by providing person-centred care that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills, and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.”
Councillor Jim Beall, Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, added: “This will be a valuable service providing specialist nursing care for adults with complex needs and well as providing welcome jobs for local residents and benefits for local suppliers.”
