Andy is recognised for lifetime of service to Civil Engineering

Andy Flowerday, from Stoke Poges, has received a lifetime achievement award from the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (Southern) after 45 years of high-level service to the industry.

Andy, who is currently Director at St Albans based Barhale Ltd., was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Industry Award at a special ceremony held at The Brewery in London.

Andy’s contribution to the UK’s civil infrastructure and the impressive list of iconic projects in which he has been involved, have been truly outstanding. He joined Barhale in 1981 and quickly proved to be an invaluable asset, being appointed company director within a decade – the first of several senior positions, including Managing Director, held during his 42 years at Barhale.

Andy has always been keen to ensure that Barhale kept at the forefront of expertise and he advocated sharing knowledge across the wider industry. As a role model for the Barhale Values, he is well liked and respected at all levels, always maintaining a positive attitude and known for his mantra “Problems are opportunities”. He also spent time lecturing at Warwick University, drawing on his passion for engineering to inspire the next generation.

Samantha Barratt, CECA Southern Chair, congratulated Andy on his success, commenting: “For many years Andy has been, and remains, a figurehead within Barhale. Andy’s enthusiasm for engineering, people, safety, health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability, innovation, collaboration, understanding client’s needs and so much more touched on every aspect of the company at all levels. And he did so all the time being a thoroughly humble person whose energy and enthusiasm are contagious and who leaves a positive, memorable impression on everyone he meets. Thanks to Andy, Barhale has developed into the successful business it is today.” Andy received his accolade at the annual CECA Southern Lunch & Awards ceremony where each winner received a trophy and cheque for £500.
