Hampshire housebuilders warn children about site safety this summer
As schools across the region get ready to finish for the summer, Hampshire housebuilders Barratt and David Wilson Homes are warning children to stay away from their building sites over the holidays.
The leading housebuilders say that new home developments under construction may look like fun and exciting places to play, but they also pose serious dangers.
Barratt and David Wilson are currently working on new homes at Harbour Place in Bedhampton, Pebble Walk on Hayling Island and Forest Walk in Whiteley.
Matthew Nicklin, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Construction Manager, said: “Building sites are full of potential dangers and, as the school summer holidays are here, it is important to remind children and their parents of the need to stay away from them.
“Youngsters are often on the lookout for somewhere new and exciting to play, but construction sites are not adventure playgrounds. While our construction teams watch out for young people during the day and we secure our sites at night, we also ask parents and children to remain vigilant.”
To mark the start of the summer holidays the developers have compiled a list of the top five dangers on a construction site. This information forms part of the site safety talks that Barratt and David Wilson regularly hold in schools close to where they are building.
Things may fall on you You may fall into things such as holes in the ground You might be hit by machines You may fall or trip over something You could get trapped in pipes or drains
“It’s important to get youngsters thinking about the dangers that exist to emphasise the message that they should stay away from building sites,” Matthew added.
