Global professional services firm announces relocation to new Birmingham office
Aon plc, a global professional services firm, plans to relocate its Birmingham team to a new office at 20 Colmore Circus.
Aon has agreed a 10-year lease on the whole of the 22,709 square foot space on the 12th floor of the Colmore Building. Approximately 400 colleagues will relocate from Aon’s current premises at 2-6 Colmore Gate to the new office in September.
The 12-storey Colmore Building was originally built in 2008 on the site of the former Birmingham Post and Mail printworks and is already home to a range of professional services businesses.
Refurbished in 2016, the building features benefits such as a ground floor coffee shop, private doctor’s office, a fully equipped gym, yoga suite, hair and beauty treatment rooms, dry cleaners, bike stores and changing facilities, and electric chargers in its 115-space car park.
Not only does the building hold a high sustainability rating of BREEAM Excellent for its construction and operation, which meets Aon’s own sustainability criteria, but its many amenities will also benefit Aon colleagues, clients, and other guests.
Ted Winterbottom, programme, project and change manager for Aon in Birmingham, said: “We are all looking forward to moving to our new offices in the Colmore Building following the end of our current lease. In the search for new premises, we focused on sustainability, wellbeing and a city centre location, and the new office meets all our criteria.
“We recognise the BREEAM Excellent rating within our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments, alongside the quality of the building and the amenities it offers our colleagues. The new space will also support our Smart Working approach, which brings our workforce together collaboratively to deliver the best of Aon to our clients.
“The new office is within 130 metres of our current office, so commutes will remain the same. The building is not only close to excellent public transport links but the bike store and changing facilities also provide opportunities for people to ride in if they choose.”
The internal fit-out is underway to create a bright, open plan space for colleagues with conference rooms, co-working hubs and break-out areas creating a comfortable, flexible environment. The office will have a total of 23 meeting rooms, the names of which will be decided by the Aon colleagues who will use them day to day.
Ted added: “With colleagues participating in the naming of the meeting rooms, we will celebrate the best of Birmingham. Nominations will focus on the people, places and things of which the city is most proud, and we will unveil the winning names at our official opening in September.”
