Start-up Zak Mobility secures £520k funding for its unique in-wheel suspension technology
Nottinghamshire startup, Zak Mobility, has secured a £140k investment from the British Design Fund as part of a £520k funding round led by Kero Development Partners, as the company looks to redefine the future of mobility.
Zak Mobility’s patented technology is aiming to transform the way vehicles ride and handle, to aid smoother, more sustainable transportation. By combining the suspension with an electric hub motor within the wheel, vehicle weight and road vibrations are reduced, enhancing vehicle efficiency. The system also allows for greater chassis flexibility and improved handling.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, Zak Mobility’s innovative technology can be applied to various vehicle types, with particular benefits for the ‘last mile’ delivery sector. The company was founded by serial entrepreneur Sam Pearce, a mechanical engineer with a passion for invention.
Sam commented: “It’s fantastic to have British Design Fund, Kero and our other investors on board. This funding will allow us to push forward with the next step in our growth plans and in taking our prototype to market.”
He continued: “With the move towards a low carbon transport system we believe there is a global opportunity for our technology to revolutionise the ways goods are transported. By increasing efficiency and reducing weight, we have the potential to contribute to a greener future for the automotive industry.”
Damon Bonser, CEO, British Design Fund, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Sam and the Zak Mobility team to our portfolio. Their technology offers a unique solution for the transport industry and while the concept itself may be simple, it has been made possible by a huge amount of technical development and engineering.
“What we look for in any startup business we invest in is a credible team with a product that has potential to scale and make a positive impact. Sam and the Zak Mobility team tick all those boxes.”
British Design Fund is a leading early-stage British manufacturing investor.
