Elder Way offers opportunity for tenants to benefit from Premier Inn guest spend

Chesterfield’s Elder Way development is helping drive town centre spend.

Research by Whitbread PLC, the UK’s largest hospitality business and owner of Premier Inn, has found that guests staying at a Premier Inn spend on average, £79 a night in the local area.

Businesses looking to invest in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, can benefit from Premier Inn guest spend by making the move to the contemporary, street level units directly beneath the popular 92-bedroom Premier Inn Chesterfield Town Centre.

Whitbread found that food and drink and entertainment were the top categories of spending for Premier Inn guests followed by non-food shopping and travel.

Beneath the hotel, which is located on the upper two floors of the former Co-op department store, regeneration specialist Jomast has transformed the ground floor of the famous mock Tudor 1930s building into eight large street level units with glazed frontages. There is also a large basement within the scheme.

There are now a number of leasing opportunities available at the 21,761 sq ft scheme, from smaller E Class and Sui Generis Bar units of 1,420 sq ft upwards to larger units of up to 4,704 sq ft. There is 16,285 sq ft of gym/D2 space in the basement of the building.

The units at Elder Way offer prospective tenants a flexible and blank canvas for their business.

Joint agents for the units at Elder Way, WSB Property Consultants and FHP are marketing the units at food, drink, entertainment, retail and clinical operators.

Elder Way also benefits from the development’s position within the recently completed £19.9million Northern Gateway regeneration scheme. The scheme comprises a secure multi-storey car park, Northern Gateway Enterprise Centre, and large-scale public realm improvements which surround Elder Way.

Elder Way tenants will also benefit from Chesterfield Borough Council’s drive to attract more tourists and visitors to the town.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “We are aiming to attract more tourists and visitors over the next four years and there are a number of new hotel developments planned to support this growth. It is useful to understand how guests at hotels support our wider town centre economy and provide a boost for local businesses.”
