North East businesses join forces to raise over 28k for Alzheimer’s Research UK

250 business leaders from across the region came out in force this month to raise awareness and vital funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK, raising a mighty £28,745.

The popular Ladies Day, which is the brainchild of Sara Hoxhaj (Alzheimer’s Research UK) and Sarah Gray (Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group) returned for a 2nd year at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, and 2023 saw nearly a 300% increase in funds raised and an increase in attendees of over 40% compared to the successful event in 2022.

The ground-breaking event last year was the first of its kind for Alzheimer’s Research UK not just in the region, but in the UK. The sold-out event saw a guest panel take to the stage hosted by Caroline Theobold MBE, owner of Bridge Club and Non-Executive Director at the Power of Women, alongside inspirational panel guests Amazing Jane Co-Founders, Claire Goodliff and Deb De Luen and Avril Matthews from A Liberty Life – life and crisis coaching, with world-renowned Researcher Daniel Erskine bringing the latest developments and insight from the field.

Casey Lane, Founder and Managing Director at Lanes & Co, the distinguished and internationally renowned luxury jewellery, antique and auction specialists kicked off a live auction on the day, which raised £4.5k alone.

Sarah Gray, Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group said:

“What an incredible event, I’m truly touched by all that gave their support. The total raised surpassed all my expectations. It’s a heartfelt thank you to friends, colleagues and guests that made this happen. Special thanks goes out to Leonard Curtis for being one of the main sponsors and giving me the support I needed in pulling this together. Here’s to 2024!”

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. The charity’s vision is of a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.

The emotional and exhilarating full day event saw many businesses close their doors for the day to support the fundraising drive, and an action-packed agenda proceeded with 20 local pop-up retailers, alongside insightful panel discussions, a sparkle auction and a sumptuous entertainment and dining itinerary.

The event received backing and support from businesses across the region including Barclays, Leonard Curtis, Talentheads, First Mortgage, English Heritage, Jacksons Law, Cornerstone Business Solutions, Gino D’Acampo Restaurant Quayside, and many more.

Sara Hoxhaj, Alzheimer’s Research UK said:

“It truly has not yet sunk in! I am still in awe of our local North East community and the power it has shown by coming together behind a cause that touches most of us. Thank you to everyone who joined us on the day, as well as the partners and sponsors for supporting us. This has been an inspiring journey to say the least, and I cannot wait to see you all next year again.”
