HSBC UK provides building blocks for new school with multi-million-pound funding

A Bedfordshire school is set to open a brand new 40-acre site, 80 times larger than their existing half acre site with the support of a multi-million pound funding package from HSBC UK.

Bedford Greenacre Independent School has announced that the HSBC UK-funded building is set to welcome 690 pupils from reception to sixth form to its ‘state-of-the-art’ facility for the 2024 Autumn term.

The new site will increase student capacity by 100, which is expected to lead to new teaching jobs, allowing greater specialisation for students. Additionally, the move to a larger premise will mean new employment across all areas of the school, including teaching, administration, cleaning, caretaking, and catering.

Located in Bedford, the new site will feature a modern design, prioritising sustainability and energy efficiency and will occupy a hill-top position to the north of the town.

The huge increase in size will allow the Greenacre School to install sports facilities such as a 3G football pitch as well as a standout amphitheatre to promote physical and cultural education among its pupils.

The new facilities will also be available to the wider community, ensuring the new school plays a central role in providing athletic and cultural activities more widely in the local area.

Ian Daniel, Headteacher at Greenacre School, commented: “We want to deliver a world class education and school experience to our pupils.

“The funding from HSBC UK, combined with the fantastic support we have received from our Relationship Manager at the bank, Suzanne Wright, ensures that, not only will our students get an inspiring experience, but the community in which we are a part of will also benefit greatly.”

Richard Parker, Area Director at HSBC UK, added: “We are very excited to be involved in funding this new school site which is going to provide a great education for local children, as well as new jobs and facilities that the whole community can enjoy.”

Bedford Greenacre Independent School was created in 2021 when Rushmoor School and St Andrews School were combined to create a new co-ed school.

It currently operates from two separate sites in Bedford where it provides education and care for children from Reception to Sixth Form, with an associated nursery for children from four months. The new school will replace the two existing sites when completed.
