Residents raise a glass to double celebrations at Ilkley care home
Mayfield View care home has collaborated with The Ilkley Brewery to produce a limited-edition beer to celebrate two milestones at the residential, nursing and dementia care home on Lower Railway Road, Ilkley.
The Mayfield Arms - the homes’ in-house pub hosted a party and revealed the new, locally brewed beer to residents, and their loved ones.
Named by staff and residents as the ‘Mayfield Brew’, the pale ale pays homage to the care home which now sits on the site where The Ilkley Brewery and Aerated Water Company used to brew over 100 years go.
Director at The Ilkley Brewery, Luke Raven said, “We are delighted to team up with Mayfield View.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the residents sampling beers, talking about the history of the brewery and of course, choosing the right beer to be the Mayfield Arms’ Pale Ale.”
The event marked two celebrations – including the 5th anniversary of the home, as well as the 103rd birthday of resident Eileen Warham who was one of a handful of residents involved in the beer tasting sessions.
Eileen said, “I’ve really enjoyed being involved in the process of picking the right pale ale for the job.
“It’s lovely to have something to celebrate and the staff at the home have made me feel really special.”
The collaboration between the brewery and the home has been bubbling away for some time, but the home wanted to wait for the perfect moment to reveal the beer.
Home manager, Katie Cliff said, “First and foremost, we wanted to do something extra special to celebrate Eileen’s birthday
“The Mayfield Arms is so popular with residents and their loved ones and due to the history of the site, a limited-edition beer to celebrate Eileen’s birthday and the 5th anniversary of the home just made sense.
“The team at The Ilkley Brewery have been wonderful and after months of beer tasting and name changes, it was great to finally reveal Mayfield Brew in the Mayfield Arms to residents and their families.”
