Aysgarth Falls Hotel expansion plans approved. 

Yorkshire Dales National Park has given permission for a groundbreaking development for one of the north’s oldest and most historic hotels. 

  The site of The Aysgarth Falls Hotel & Palmers Restaurant, which has a heritage dating back over 800 years, was acquired by Barnsley-based company The Brook Group two years ago.   

The company embarked on a major programme of refurbishment for all 11 bedrooms, the bar, lounge and Palmers restaurant, which re-opened in April this year.

  Now though, Yorkshire Dales National Park planners have given the go ahead for The Brook Group to begin work on the most ambitious expansion of the hotel’s facilities to date, with the creation of 14 purpose-built luxury hotel lodges alongside an additional restaurant space.

  “When we acquired the hotel, the rooms were tired and lacked any recent investment, but the restaurant had a good local reputation for food. We knew that we had found a very special property in a beautiful and unique location, and our aim has always been to elevate the offering more in line with current demand and tastes,” said Chief Executive Jason Brook. 

  “Our long-term plans are to offer a retreat-like environment for a wide range of customers, whilst also offering excellent facilities for corporate and international guests. 

  “Integral to that plan is the provision of the hotel lodges, which really will place guests at the heart of this spectacular Yorkshire landscape, just a short walk from the celebrated Aysgarth Falls, alongside other local attractions such as Bolton Castle, Wensleydale Creamery, and the Forbidden Corner.

  “Our plans were first submitted at the start of 2023 and have been subjected, quite rightly, to detailed scrutiny by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Planners.” 

  Cameron Brook added, “The planning application faced some considerable hurdles, as can be expected with a major development located within the heart of a National Park.

“Despite this, it ultimately secured approval at the committee, with no members voting to refuse.

“The success of the application was undoubtedly a team effort, and we wish to thank all the consultants who contributed to the project.

“Special recognition is deservedly extended to AMS Planning and GWP Architecture for their pivotal roles within the team.”

  “We are delighted that the National Park Authority has seen the merit in our vision and that they too understand how we wish to enhance the existing offering, along with providing a year-round benefit to the local economy.

“It is refreshing to positively collaborate with a planning authority to create a new generation of facility that is entirely in keeping with this unique and exceptional location.” 

  The Brook Group has been developing and operating leisure businesses for 30 years and is now taking a new strategic direction into destination leisure, with development plans across the UK.
