Hampshire developers are ‘buzzing’ about bee-saving partnership
Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Southampton Division is helping to save the region’s bees with an exciting new partnership.
The leading housebuilders, which are bringing new homes to the county, have teamed up with bee-revival kit inventors, Beevive, and will be giving all their new homeowners one of the company’s special bee-saving kits.
Bees are in serious decline in the UK and the wildlife-friendly housebuilders want to do all they can to help.
Every new Barratt and David Wilson resident will now receive a Beevive Kit which they can attach to their keys or bag. The kit includes a bottle containing an ambrosia bee food syrup to help revive exhausted bees if there are no bee-friendly flowers nearby.
Beevive was born after its founders, Faye Whitley and Jake Powell, were inspired by an encounter they had with an exhausted bee that they revived with a water and sugar solution.
Beevive Co-Founder, Faye Whitley, said she’s delighted that more bees will be looked after with the developers’ support.
She said: “We are buzzing to partner with Barratt and David Wilson Homes and welcome all of their new home owners to our bee-saving community.
“Our mission is to raise people’s awareness about the importance of bees in a fun, adventurous and interactive way. By empowering and encouraging individuals to make a positive difference, we can hopefully inspire them to take further action to care for pollinators and create bee-friendly spaces in their new homes and outdoor spaces.”
Barratt and David Wilson Homes are committed to providing a home for wildlife as well as humans at their developments across the region and have taken steps to help save British bees by changing the way they landscape their open spaces and show home gardens.
Tammy Bishop, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Sales Director, said she’s looking forward to passing on the Beevive kits to new residents.
She said: “At Barratt and David Wilson we want to look after our local wildlife and as part of that we include bee-friendly plants and shrubs in our developments. We also provide our customers with tips on how to make their own gardens attractive for bees.
“I’m delighted that we are able to unveil this fantastic partnership with Beevive.”
Beevive’s story began in 2018 when its founders, Faye and Jake, helped rescue an exhausted bee during a short break in Cornwall and decided to create a Bee Revival Kit. Since then, the company’s product range has grown tremendously, and together with its community, it has helped bees all over the world.
Beevive Kits are for emergency use only. If there is time, the first port-of-call is to carefully place the bee onto a nearby flower.
