Jo Giles is named South West's Most Promising Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Jo Giles, from Tiverton, Devon, has been named the South West’s most promising trainee quantity surveyor at this year’s Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Young Achiever Awards.

Jo joined Milestone Infrastructure as a receptionist/office assistant after a career break, and was promoted to a Trainee Quantity Surveyor in April 2023 before taking up her current role as Assistant Quantity Surveyor. She received the CECA award for her drive, ambition and determination to succeed, having put herself forward for involvement in projects to improve the company’s commercial procedures.

Speaking at the presentation at The Grand Hotel in Torquay, Phil Ramsden, Chair, CECA (South West), said: “Our industry needs more individuals like Jo with drive, a positive attitude and eagerness to take on new challenges and excel in them.

“Civil engineering construction is vital to national and regional infrastructure investment in transport, energy, coastal protection and more, and central to our transition to a low carbon economy. This industry presents huge opportunities for people across a broad spectrum of roles - and it’s essential that we attract talented individuals, whether they are university, college and school leavers or people looking for a change of career, if we are to build a prosperous and sustainable future.”

The CECA South West Young Achiever Awards are presented annually in recognition of exceptional performance, with each winner receiving a trophy and cheque for £500.
