Eland Cables announces carbon emissions reduction amidst year of significant growth

Eland Cables, one of Europe’s fastest growing electrical cable suppliers to critical infrastructure, announced a 7.4 per cent reduction in carbon emissions while achieving business growth of more than 20 per cent over the same year.

The company’s 7.4% improvement for the calendar year 2022 was achieved through internal operations actions and wider supply chain changes, putting it on-track to achieve its near-term carbon reduction targets under the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) - and its long-term net zero goal.

Reporting carbon emissions in absolute terms, the company delivered a reduction in emissions whilst simultaneously achieving annual growth of more than 23.5 percent.

Practical carbon mitigating actions

During 2022 alone, the company fitted PV solar panels at its operations sites to generate as much electricity it uses annually, in addition to adapting its HGV fleet by switching from diesel to sustainable HVO biofuel, and introducing EV vans. The company also became zero-landfill waste operations sites, opening its own cable recycling facility, and turning any non-recyclable materials (including floor sweepings) into biofuel pellets for industrial kilns.

Wider accreditation

Aligning with global initiatives and reporting standards means Eland Cables’ carbon emissions baseline reporting was verified to ISO 14064-1 Carbon Footprint Verification by BSI. The company is also signatories to the United Nations Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and hold Silver Medal status with Ecovadis (the business sustainability ratings platform) for environmental, ethical, human rights and sustainable procurement, putting them near the top 10% of all companies assessed.

The firm works on projects worldwide to enable infrastructure electrification and the green energy transition. From critical power for new hyperscale data centres, eMobility and the EV charging network infrastructure, to clean energy, renewable, and energy storage projects, they’re all underpinned and reliant on cables.

In January this year, Forbes Magazine rated the Yorkshire cable supplier as ‘one to watch’ having profiled the company’s executive director Jean-Sébastien Pelland - naming him ‘The Cable King’.
