New cinema, bar and restaurant announced at West London development
St George, a member of the Berkeley Group, and Picturehouse Cinemas, have confirmed plans to open its eight-screen cinema in Ealing on 20 October.
Located at Filmworks, an art-deco inspired residential, leisure and hospitality destination by St George, the cinema is the largest Picturehouse outside of London’s West End, with over 900 seats and a café, bar and restaurant.
The Picturehouse forms part of a growing leisure and hospitality offering at Filmworks, and joins entertainment venue and arcade Boom Battle Bar, artisan coffee shop Black Sheep Coffee, neighbourhood bar Teatro Hall, award-winning ramen restaurant Kanada-Ya and fried buttermilk chicken specialists Butchies.
Piers Clanford, Chairman of St George Plc, commented: “Ealing has long been synonymous with British cinema, with countless iconic shows and films produced in Ealing Studios over the years.
“With Filmworks also located on the site of the former Forum Theatre, it is fantastic to be working with Picturehouse to continue to bring this rich arts heritage to the forefront of the area.
“Ealing Picturehouse marks the final stage of our Filmworks development, which is home to more than 200 new homeowners, as well as a fantastic array of restaurants, bars and amenities. We look forward to watching this fantastic community continue to grow and welcome both residents and visitors to this exciting new leisure destination.”
In homage to the history of the site, the restoration of Filmworks sensitively integrates many of the cinema’s original features with art deco and 1920s features throughout.
Due care was taken to carefully repair the art deco frontage of the residential scheme, which was originally designed by John Stanley Beard, an English architect known for designing cinemas in and around London.
This included restoring the eight ‘iconic’ colonnades to create a grand entrance. No detail too small, the Concierge at Bogart House also features one of the original chandeliers from the Forum Theatre, which has been restored to its former glory.
Clare Binns, Managing Director of Picturehouse Cinemas, added: “Picturehouse is all about showing the best films from around the world: films for everyone, young and old. To open in Ealing, which has such a rich history of film production, is so exciting, it’s the perfect fit for a company committed to film on the big screen.”
