16th century country pub near Ripon has been brought back to life

The Staveley Arms in North Stainley near Ripon has reopened.

Following a seven-month period of closure, the 16th century pub has undergone substantial refurbishment and has opened again under experienced proprietors Steve Mortimer, Fay Howell and Oliver Renton.

“When The Staveley Arms opportunity was presented to us, we leapt at the chance,” comments Steve, who alongside Fay, also runs The Turkey Inn, a successful country pub in West Yorkshire. The pair hope to bring their successful formula to the North Stainley venue.

“It’s been wonderful working alongside James Staveley and the whole North Stainley team to get the pub open again. They’ve been involved in the whole process and, like us, are keen to bring the pub back to life and back to being the heart of the village. It was great to see the excitement around the re-opening at the recent North Stainley Together Community meeting too.”

Nestled in the North Yorkshire village of North Stainley, The Staveley Arms is just four miles from Ripon and within easy access from Harrogate, Leeds and a host of Yorkshire’s popular attractions.

The pub is complimented by eight immaculately presented en-suite rooms – housed inside ‘The Old Coach House’. The accommodation has remained open throughout the last seven months and over the years has gained numerous awards and 5-star reviews.

Pub general manager Oliver Renton wants to maintain the venue’s strong reputation for serving high quality food and drink, whilst ensuring a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.

“The Staveley Arms has so much to offer,” comments Oliver, an experienced publican. “I’ve worked in the industry for over 20 years and The Staveley Arms has it all. Internally and externally it’s an amazing venue offering so much space and opportunity – the beer garden alone can accommodate 80 customers.”

As we move into the winter months Oliver confirmed the pub will be a cosy spot for a mid-week meal or a Sunday Roast. “It’s a traditional country pub, the fires will be roaring, walkers and dogs will be welcome all year round, and there will always be a good choice of Yorkshire ales available, plus of course our own Staveley Arms ales.

We’ve recently moved into the village, our children are attending the local school – we’re really looking forward to getting stuck into North Stainley life.“

Oliver will be supported by a strong kitchen and front of house team. “Experienced chef Loc Bui will lead the kitchen. Loc has over 30 years of knowledge in the industry, we just know everyone will love his cooking and menus.”
