Holly Hargreaves starts new role as Assistant Site Manager at Dorset development

David Wilson Homes has welcomed Holly Hargreaves to its new Shaftesbury development, as she takes on her new Assistant Site Manager role.

An experienced Assistant Site Manager with nine years of experience behind her, Holly, who is from Bournemouth joins David Wilson Homes’ Niveus Walk development following a stint at Taylor Wimpey where she spent her time working on two sites in Andover.

32-year-old Holly’s career in property was sparked by her dad, who runs his own painting and decorating business and that was eventually where she started work alongside him. Fuelled by her enjoyment of the role, Holly wanted to do a degree in a property-related field and started to look to corporate housebuilders that could offer her part funding for her BA Hons in the Built Environment as well as valuable “on the job” experience.

In her time, Holly has seen the industry move at an incredibly fast pace and is pleased to be at the centre of modern housing. “Properties are becoming much more energy efficient, both during the build and after, when we hand them over to our customers,” she said. “It’s a really exciting time to be in the industry, as it is changing all the time – and part of that process means houses are being built much more quickly.”

With that, Holly recognises that high demand also comes with high competition. “There is a high demand for housing in this country and there is fierce competition from housebuilders to make sure they are building them faster than others to meet that demand and get customers moved in. What I like about working with David Wilson Homes is that the brand is built on trust – customers trust that you will build them a house that will last and is good quality.”

For Holly personally though, she likes to experience every stage of that property cycle. “I love my job,” she says. “I love seeing how a property goes from being a drawing on a piece of paper, to someone’s home. It’s easy to forget that when so many are being built, but it’s always at the front of your mind that this home will be where people put down roots, grow families and make memories.”

As one of few females in the construction industry, Holly says she isn’t phased by the stigma that can come with women working in a male-dominated environment.

“I’ve rarely experienced any different treatment from male colleagues, we’re just one big team. It’s an environment I’m used to being in and it doesn’t phase me. Having said that, I do think a lot has changed in the industry to make it more progressive – it’s great to see housebuilders like David Wilson Homes encouraging more women to come forward and step into those roles.”
