Charity gig to make Xmas magical for 40,000 needy youngsters

Cash for Kids, YMCA North Tyneside and local band, Groovetrain, are coming together for the very first time to put on an epic fundraising show at The Exchange 1856 in North Shields to make Christmas extra special for 40,000 North East kids in need.

The charity gig takes place from 6pm until late, on Thursday 23rd November at newly renovated, The Exchange 1856 in North Shields, and will include an evening of Funk and Soul music, as well as featuring famous friends such as Hairy Biker, Si King, Meatloaf singer, Lorraine Crosby and St Elmo’s Fire star, John Parr. With warm-up act, Savannah Lily, The Voice Kids finalist 2021, getting the party started.

All funds raised will go to purchase Christmas gifts for 40,000 deserving North East youngsters aged 0-18 to help make their festive season a little happier.

Stuart Egan, Manging Director at The Exchange 1856 said: “Stepping up as Santa to give 40,000 local children a Christmas gift is a fantastic cause and we are delighted to play host for the very first time in our newly refurbished auditorium.

“With tickets priced at just £20 – we’re urging the local community to come along and support it. You can enjoy an amazing evening of entertainment, at the same time as knowing you are putting a smile on a youngster’s face on Christmas morning. What could be better?”

Si King, broadcaster and author, ‘The Hairy Bikers’, said: ““I’m delighted to be part of the show and part of the groovetrain line-up for what promises to be a very special night for an important cause in the region. We all know that North East people are incredibly generous and we look forward to putting on a great show for all those supporting the event.”

Lisa Fox, Charity Fundraising Executive for North East & Cumbria at Cash for Kids, said: “Cash for Kids is delighted to be partnering with YMCA North Tyneside on this event. It’s fantastic to have the support of groovetrain for what we know will be a special evening. As a charity, we raise money all year to support children living in poverty and Mission Christmas is our biggest appeal. The aim is simple – to ensure every child wakes up to a gift on Christmas Day as we believe every youngster should experience the magic of the festive season. Last year, we helped provide gifts for 40,000 North East children and it will be a similar number in 2023. The cost-of-living crisis is having a real impact making Christmas simply a luxury that many families in our community simply cannot afford. We hope everyone enjoys their evening at The Exchange 1856 as we kick start Christmas in style whilst raising funds for two brilliant causes!”
